Recipe: Broccoli à la Dad.

Before Thanksgiving I held a workshop and shared a few recipes that I thought looked good. I have to admit, I hadn’t tried all of them yet. My parents got around to trying one of them before I did and reported back that one of them was a bit strange (by our cooking standards). Luckily for all of us, my dad is quite the cook and used that recipe to create one that is much more practical and tasty! Here it is:

Ingredients:

Broccoli, or Broccolini, if you prefer. I do prefer.

Olive oil

A couple dashes of sesame oil

Salt

Pepper

A splash of soy sauce (when I say a splash, it really isn’t more than a quarter or half a teaspoon)

A splash of white rice wine vinegar

Squeeze of half a lemon

Directions:

1. Use the olive oil and sesame oil to lightly sauté the broccoli. Add salt and pepper to taste.

2. Once cooked, toss the broccoli with the soy sauce, white rice wine vinegar and lemon.

3. Eat!

My dad taught me most of what I know about cooking, and that includes “eye-balling” things instead of measuring. For this recipe, think “less is more” and base quantities of your splashes on how much broccoli you are making. Good luck out there.

Voilà. Broccoli that actually tastes good!
