How We Show Up
I have been reflecting on the quality of my work days lately and noticing some of the common qualities amongst my clients that make my days feel really special. I have had the privilege of showing up for them each week not only in the gym, but also on their race days, worst days, professionally successful days, birthdays, and all the days in between. On all of these days, I am continually impressed by the ways they show up and move through things, both physically and mentally. These are some of the qualities that our crew has in common:
Resilience
We continually and intentionally enhance our ability to manage stress.
We slowly and steadily make hard things easier and easier.
Grit
Courage and willingness to try hard.
We’re not afraid of how it feels to try hard
We’re willing to be seen trying hard. Especially when we are not yet good at whatever we are doing, although maybe not TOO publicly :)
Grace
We demonstrate courteous goodwill towards ourselves and others.
We possess the intelligence to know when NOT to grind, when to rest, and have compassion for ourselves in all of our humanness and life’s inevitable disruptions and distractions.
Growth
A growth mindset: willingness, eagerness and openness to learn. The belief that we have the self-efficacy to improve and evolve.
We’re honest about our experiences and emotions, acknowledging them in all their glory and acting accordingly and responsibly.
Rest
We love and value our rest!
We know that rest is the crucial ingredient that allows all the others to flourish. Only with proper and appropriate rest can we truly perform at our highest levels.
Trust
Between you and your body - trust in your ability to show up and try things, regardless of the outcome.
Between you and me - trust in our ability to work together and communicate effectively.
Humor
It may be hard to believe, but exercise CAN be fun! A good sense of humor goes a long way in making this possible.
Some of these are a long-term work in progress, for all of us! But these values aren't just ideals—they're what I see lived out in our training sessions, races, and everyday moments. I'm excited to continue building a community rooted in these principles, and I welcome anyone who resonates with this approach to strength and well-being.
I learn so much from all of my clients (or client-friends, as I usually call them) and I’m so honored and grateful to work with each of them. If these qualities sound like you, or like the you you’re striving to be, we always have room for more in the JR Strength Health Nuts community.
Cheers,
Jessie
